What exactly IS Zumba?
Zumba is a dance fitness workout that features exotic rhythms set to high-energy Latin and international beats. Before participants know it, they’re getting fit and their energy levels are soaring! There’s no other fitness class like a Zumba Fitness-Party. It’s easy to do, effective and totally exhilarating, often building a deep-rooted community among returning students
What should I wear to a Zumba class?
You can wear any type of fitness gear that does not restrict movement. Shoes should not have a lot of rubber/tread on the bottom ( try to avoid brand new running shoes -especially if the class is being done on carpet), LaWanda "The Fitness Diva" wears Ryka high top studio shoes and Zumba dance shoes. Dance sneakers work as well. However, if your shoes have lots of tread, you can put shoe sliders or clear packing tape on the bottom for a smoother surface.
What about my injuries?
Listen to your body because you are the one that will be taking it home! If you have injuries (primarily knee or back), you should consult your doctor before taking a class. Jumping is a part of Zumba, but there are always modifications.You can also ask for an alternative way to do move before or after the class!
What if I have two left feet,am out of shape,or can't keep up?
Zumba is easy to follow because the moves are repetitive. LaWanda's choreograpy is awesome and most class participants catch on to her style very quickly. Her moves go with the flow of the music which makes it simple! If you are out of shape, be patient. The more you do anything ( including Zumba) the easier it gets. You may have to rest between a few songs but grab some water and get back in there as soon as you recover! DON'T GET DISCOURAGED!
Who takes Zumba classes?
Everyone! Zumba classes are attended by all ages,sizes, shapes,nationalities,and both genders!
Can I lose weight and get in shape by taking Zumba?
Oh YES! Class participants can burn over 1000 calories in 1 hour with Zumba! You control the intensity of your own workout! The more you move, the bigger the steps, the higher you jump,the more calories you burn! Most of all,people get in shape with Zumba because it is FUN! With that said, people look foward to "working out". Zumba feels more like a night at the disco than a day at the gym!
